Autumn of the Black Snake is great. The prose is really fun, there’s a ton of attention paid to the Native American perspective, and it was filled with fun tidbits- James Wilkinson was in charge of the whole US Army, twice, and was a Spanish spy the whole time. Wild. It also describes a long grinding war won by logistics and a fanatical attention to detail, which is the sort of historical analogy I am over-projecting into my own life right now.
